PRESS RELEASE: Boise DSA Calls for Rent Freeze, Eviction Moratorium
May 2, 2020

Boise, Idaho, May 1, 2020 — The Boise Democratic Socialists of America is a local chapter of the larger Democratic Socialists of America, a socialist organization that believes in the rights of working people. Members of the Boise DSA participated in a May Day demonstration organized by autonomous community members.

Participants of the May Day Mobile Demonstration drove around Cecil D. Andrus Park in protest of Governor Brad Little’s premature plan to reopen Idaho businesses. Members of the Boise DSA specifically are calling for an immediate freeze on rents and mortgages and an enforced moratorium on all evictions during the COVID-19 crisis.

The protesters met at Cathedral of the Rockies to decorate cars and create signs, and members of the community gave speeches on subjects like the impact of the coronavirus, how to move forward, and the history of May Day. The car noise demonstration was followed by a caravan through downtown and a distribution of some snacks and non-perishable food items to participants and the Boise Mutual Aid Group.
